Demonstrating on a daily basis the importance of safety in the production and transport of our steel products is our Acacia Ridge Site Operations Manager, Darren Newbegin. Darren has been named as a finalist for the Individual Safety Leader Award in the Steel Transport Safety Network Awards on Thursday 7 August 2014.
The Steel Transport Safety Network is a part of the Australian Steel Institute which is Australia's peak steel industry association promoting Australian steel in manufacturing. The Individual Safety Leader Award celebrates members of the industry who go above and beyond to ensure safety best practice is followed across all aspects of business.
Darren is very proud of the work he and his team have done to create and maintain a safe working environment on site, in support of the Austube Mills Goal Zero initiatives.
“It feels great to be a finalist,” Darren said. “I know the hard work my team and I have put into the culture of our site."
“We have not only changed the physical environment to ensure we have a secure and safe work space, but we also influenced the hearts and minds of the department's workers, visitors and contractors,” he said.
